LOLOL Rather than banning them at the get-go we like to see them as a frog in a pot, in/on heat. Like you i miss them a bit. Once-in-a-while. This part of yours was particularly interesting:

In the US, the trends were slightly different.

* Over two thirds of American 25–34-year-olds (64%) have engaged in trolling online (defined
as leaving intentionally offensive messages or insulting someone on purpose online)

* One in two (57%) acknowledge that others have been upset by their actions

* Over a third (40%) believe themselves to be considered as confrontational.

Using that definition we are treated most unfairly when we visit their sites. Posting to
fact check and/or to simply offer correct information should never be seen as trolling.

One of my thoughts about trolling conditioning that normal people fall into is a sort of setup of 'unanswered-ness'.
I'm sure someone more qualified than me has a name already, and it's a huge ploy on stock boards is it's like a unwritten pressure on the target person.

The troll says something insane and completely false and writes it as true syntax. So the target, knowing it's total bullshit and doesn't answer at all. Which the troll then claims, see no answer so I am right and you are wrong. wheedle wheedle wheedle. And we know it's a ploy and it drives normal people nuts to leave that asshole uncorrected, so many people who know better almost can't help themselves. They know they're wrong, you know they're wrong but they are daring you to respond and if you don't they win. Or at least in their mind.

So there's that.
