I seriously doubt any change here is insidious. Does a site have to drag people into something kinda sorta? Sure. Your explanation is good enough for me and I won't be ignorant until the next time I forget you already told us.
And example was my 'whine' that they took away my ability to change the background something other than wielders white flash. Which I had set to a cool relaxing slate gray. That wasn't insidious, that was probably a sacrifice for upgrades, I don't know. I'm not hardass against change, but I've strongly advocated for allowing 'choice' if humanly possible.
The plus is we still have choice for now. And that's seriously the only thing that I would fight for. Choice. I overreact because I've had so many things pulled out from under me, website feature and navigation, video game graphic cards, car parts, hallway rugs and perfectly working 4 year old washers working til a small part broke and like your yahoo, they tell me that's no longer available cause the model was discontinued. Camera's and phones are the worst. So, yea, paranoia. Keep allowing choice if possible and a lot of whining will go away.
Speaking of whine, I think I need some real wine.
