The Mets are paying all but $22.5 million of the salary as a part of the deal, a source told Feinsand, meaning New York will cover a total of $35 million through the end of 2024.

What a frickin joke! Scherzer for 2 seasons of playoff chances for 22.5 million in exchange for a AA shortstop who plays the same position as another guy you've signed for 2 endless eons and are hugely overpaying.

If the Mets are committing to a re-build, why wouldn't you shitcan the guy who built the scrapheap you're trying to get rid of? I could see hanging on to Eppler (and Buck) until the end of the season if you were playing for a post season spot, but what's the point of moving on if you're keeping the same front office team that put you in this spot to begin with? This team has totally lost its way. The only silver lining is that Cohen and his massive ego has been shown for the embarassment that he is, to Mets fans and baseball in general. Every single organisation in MLB is loving it!

What everyone doesn't seem to understand is Cohen doesn't care. It's a tax loss that rolls up to his income and when you're worth $18B he'll write the check and move on.

It proves it doesn't work if you have an inept GM who has no clue what he is doing and spend stupidly and than leaves glaring holes in some parts of the roster that were obvious to everyone except him. But spend money wastefully like signing navarez rather than another reliever, trying to block Alvarez who for some reason he didn't want to see, but he rather see an again a aging vet and nido who is not even a ML catcher for crying out loud. This is the kind of talent evaluation this gm does. Look at the guy they gave away in the naquinn deal last year. The Jd Davis trade, how did that one work out with darin ruf. How about Daniel Vogelbach Last year, the team didn't have enough reliever so they traded a young reliever with potential, for daniel vogelbach who is still haunting the mets fans daily. Sure it won't work no matter how much money you have if you have a gm that is pretty much gonna make a bad call eveyrtime. He couldn't win with Trout and Ohtani for crying out loud with the Angels what in the world makes you think he was gonna win here. He is terrible and must go at the end of the year along with buck. Both should see the door and don't let it hit them on the way out. Yes they will have overseen the worst/most disappointing year in mets history, and depending on what eppler does and the fact that they are trusting this guy to make franchise altering decision right now is scary. All he is gonna do is set the franchise back years is what I'm worried about. What can I say Eppler is terrible at his job, and I can't wait for him to be gone from this team, if he is still in charge after this year, I may no longer be a mets fan, yes that is how obvious it is he must go. All is just my opinion of course.
