I use the ignore button to ignore the person. Back in the day 100% of their posts were supposedly on topic.

Bingo !!

The problem with "ignore" is it's all or nothing. I prefer to read all on topic opinions, but with new TOS, if someone now posts 75% personal attacks, if I ignore, I will miss their 25% on topic posts.

That was my exact point - you explained it even better and exactly how I feel about it !

"Ignore" does not "work" or at least does not "work well" or offer a good solution IMO.
