Lilly and others OFFER recombinant insulin - they do not force anyone to buy it. You are free to buy your insulin from any licensed source, even abbatoir-derived bovine or porcine insulin or any generic insulin made by generic drug maker producing an off-patent product using an off-patent process. Or pitch the VC with a NewCo to make insulin cheaply and undersell the Pharma product. - sounds like a good business opportunity for ya. (Remember, be close to the Acela stop.)
