U.S. personal income rose 0.3% in March and spending was unchanged
U.S. personal income rose 0.3% in March and spending was unchanged. These follow respective February gains of 0.3% and 0.1% (was 0.2%). Income climbed 0.6% in January and spending jumped 2.0%. Wage and salary income rose 0.3% , the same as in February. Disposable income increased 0.4% from 0.5%. The savings rate moved up to 5.1% from 4.8% (was 4.6%). The PCE chain price index edged up 0.1% from 0.3%. That is the smallest monthly increase since the -0.1% decline in July. The core rate was up 0.3% from 0.3% previously. On a 12-month basis, the headline PCE index slowed to a 4.2% pace from 5.1% (was 5.0%) y/y in the prior quarter. The core rate dipped to a 4.6% y/y clip from 4.7%.
