Declining salmon runs are certainly a long term angle to play this stock. There have been several major salmon fisheries that have been declining, Yukon and Kenai to name two. Bristol bay is certainly not guaranteed to remain productive. Alaska has been seeing a steady decline in commercial fisheries and I can only imagine things will get way worse before there is a turn around. Even if the fish go extinct, I doubt the mine will be built, one only needs to look at the NorthWest of the US to see the effort to bring salmon back to the streams of Washington and Oregon, certainly that effort will come to Alaska if the fish die off.
