#27552 RE: DewDiligence #27547

I also think this is currently true but PFAS has the ability to be quite physically damaging in ways faulty ear plugs do not. PFAS suits are just beginning to ramp up so calculating the damage this problem may cause for MMM is difficult. In an article, Morningstar suggested PFAS could result in ~3X the costs of the military earplugs. Apology, as I was unable to find that article from last week. Also from Morningstar:

Last year, the EPA found the chemicals could cause harm at levels "much lower than previously understood" and that almost no level of exposure was safe. It advised that drinking water contain no more than 0.004 parts per trillion of perfluorooctanoic acid and 0.02 parts per trillion of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid, the two chemicals among the six given the highest priority. Previously, the agency had advised that drinking water contain no more than 70 parts per trillion of the chemicals.

3M plans to continue to use PFAS chemicals in their products through 2025. To my mind, caution is recommended.
