In Texas if a person has 5 or more acres, growing hay or farm animals exempts that person from paying taxes! I've never understood people who do not take advantage of this tax exemption. Just that small amount of 10 acres was $62,000 a year in taxes 12 years ago but with the exemption it was only $200! My sister and I still own the land. Followed
