It amazes me that people think the lawyers are asking for 1.6B in damages. The lawyers aren't asking for anything. The Plaintiffs are asking for 1.6B in damages. The lawyer's job is to do what the Plaintiffs ask. It's that simple.

On "an entirely different" legal issue, I spoke to an attorney regarding a similar thing.

Of course, there are 2 schools of thought:
1. Ask for all you can, or even more, and expect them to give you less.

OR
2. Ask for LESS than you think you will get, and then let the the judge "be your hero" and give you more than you asked for.

The attorney I spoke with suggested option 2. He seemed to think that judges get rather tired of plaintiffs asking for billions and billions in compensation for their "hangnail" that only hurt for 2 days. Instead, of "overpleading", try "under pleading". Its often refreshing for the judge, and he can or may give you all you ask for, and more.

You seem much more real and reasonable than if you "ask for the unachievable".

YOUR entire case become more credible. Let your opponent hang himself with "fantastic" unbelievable claims which are not provable, while you chart of path of credibility, under promising and over delivering.

Promise less..deliver more.
Request less..get more. Sometimes humility is good.
