"Maybe I'm excessively woke also, but I don't find much, if anything, to criticize in this slide. I suspect what it says would be endorsed by most reputable scholars of early American history."

LOL--yes, you are "excessively woke".

Thanks for the slides...it is more alarming than I initially thought. Alarming---and ridiculous.

Ah. Thank you for the Rufo mention. Maher should have included that. Rufo is a culture war creator of the most disingenuous kind.

"The other side of that story. Like the writer of this piece I regularly watch Maher; the 'New Rules' at the end is as good as comedy gets, week in week out.
P - That said, he is increasingly, lazily, more prone to sweeping generalizations, conclusion jumping, cheap shots and outright misinformation, much like some posters here.

restripe, Children commit suicide. Internal conflict about sexual matters is one of the chief causes. Curriculum is set by considered experts, with appropriate consultation with medical professionals, i would assume where appropriate. You exhibit your continued ignorance and abuse of the word by describing any teacher as a woke teacher. Teachers are meant to teach the curriculum even if they personally may not agree with parts of it.
P - Too many parents neither have the skill, the time or even the inclination to know what is best for their children. Take you for example. No insult meant, just a fact.

Thanks. You saved me chasing those videos. I never heard of that Rufo dude before, yet
seems he's a key - even the KEY - player in the present political outrage around CRT.

To decry the right-wing wave of censorship is not to declare that “anything goes,” especially when it comes to the education of young children. A school district can and should use caution—and solicit parental input—when introducing sex education into the classroom. In fact, as the Miami Herald reported .. https://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article259859060.html .. , instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity “is not currently a part of the curriculum in the state’s kindergarten through third-grade classrooms.” And that’s entirely appropriate.

But prescribing textbooks and lesson plans (which public-school districts have always done) is different from imposing broad, vague bans on the undefined “instruction” of concepts and ideas. As the book bans illustrate, the harsh political reality is already vindicating civil-libertarian concerns.

No court has yet ruled on whether the law is unconstitutional. Although federal courts are protective of the free-speech rights of college professors, they’ve taken a much dimmer view of the rights of public-school teachers. States enjoy broad (though not unlimited .. https://www.oyez.org/cases/1981/80-2043 ) authority over public-school curricula. But the fact that a restrictive law might be constitutional does not render it just or wise.

Equality Florida, an LGBTQ-rights organization, and a coalition of students, parents, and teachers have filed suit .. https://www.kaplanhecker.com/sites/default/files/ECF%25201_Complaint_Equality%2520Florida%2520et%2520al%2520v%2520Desantis%2520et%2520al_22cv00134.pdf .. against Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Department of Education, arguing that the law is so broad and vague that it violates the due-process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, because teachers don’t have fair warning of the law’s true scope.
