Well, he was a member of the House of Zogu. Not really an hereditary royal. He was first prime minister of Albania, and then president. He then decided it'd be better to be a king. He'd reigned for 10 years in 1938, when Albania was invaded by Mussolini.

The current crown prince is Leka, Zog's grandson.
