Jeffrey Tayler makes a case for atheism, doesn't he?
I've been on the fence since I was old enough to read and observe people's hypocrisy in the few years I basically had no choice with the family and church going when I was 8-11 til I said no more. Turns out, my parents weren't openly religious either, but were humoring the mother-in-law, mother's side, who we came to be care givers her last few years and we all went to her church for her. She passed away, we stopped going altogether. I don't really remember the type, but I remember a lot of guilt thrown around and give in to the master and such.

My almost only true negative and hurtful memory of that association is when my mother passed away years later and we had the memorial at the cemetery and the father/priest/reverend was a distant uncle who was running that very same church of my grandmothers. He spent 45 minutes yelling at us as sinners and we must find god and blasphemy and burning in hell and never mentioned my mothers name once. He used up the entire time allotted. My father who sat there seething because I could see the veins on his neck sticking out, finally stood up and said, something like Enough, I'm coming up there and talk about my wife, the love of my life, the mother of my kids who is the reason we're here for, not your church,, something like that, and then went right up and literally pushed the guy out of the way. The next half hour was amazing with crying and laughing and people chilling out. The cousin left while my Father was speaking. I can never wipe that memory away for some reason.

I have to wonder how many families get involved with religion by association to others.
