So there is no way two people were working for a firm, saw an opportunity and decided to pull a heist? It’s not hard to spoof an IP address to implicate someone.

I’ve used metadata (source code) on a number of investigations. What’s interesting too is when I have pointed out that info on a message board the next filing they submit they are sure to delete it! Probably shouldn’t have outted them - but at least the screen shots are confirmation enough. Just like with who registers website domains - most choose anonymous proxy to hide their identity.

So it probably has a little more to do than just the IP address.

It looks like two Canadians got caught engaging in market manipulation of a US stock and violated Canadian law. For the IP address stuff and the metadata stuff, I have no clue about it. However, Google gives examples of how the same IP address might happen.

From what I can tell, MJW* and its employees were not accused of committing a crime in a criminal prosecution case.

I do have a problem with the people who come out of blue with their fear, anger, and so forth claiming the CE is permanent.

The company has the money to hire an attorney and clean up the problem.
