I suspect Architectural Digest requires kitchens of at least 500 sq.ft. before they'd give you a sniff.

Years ago I subscribed to the mag but found it to be a showcase for those of the yacht class. They continue to send me offers for $10 a year.

If you mean yours it probably isn't, at least for modern tastes. From the late '40s to around 2000, the people who built houses saw virtue in "efficiency". They were said to be easy to clean. Bathrooms were tiny, too.

How all that changed has, I think, much to do with HGTV and Food Network, which have both done a good job of introducing people to things they never knew they needed.

It can be a difficult problem to solve, unless you have the space--and the determination and permits--to extend the kitchen into the back yard. Some people decide they don't really need their dining room, and knock down the wall between it and the kitchen, creating a significantly larger space.

Naturally, if you choose that, you need to put a table in your new bigger eat-in kitchen. Watch HGTV for ideas. I'm not entirely enthusiastic. Nowadays, these kitchens usually turn out to have BOTH a large island with seating AND a big dining table. Too many tables, in my view.

And you can't make an omelet without breaking eggs. I'm not a tidy cook. I find it better to have a kitchen with a door I can close when I join the guests in the dining room.
