He's sneakily trying to conflate the time taken to process a patent filing and the time the subject of the patent filing can be commercially used. This is nonsense. Lightwave can utilise this invention though the patent is pending. As the late, great George Carlin said "think how dumb the average person is, then remember half of them are dumber than that".

I assume the patent filing took months to draft and review, and the actual refinement to the chemistry was made long ago, tested, retested and tested again (and only once everything was neatly wrapped up, did they get to drafting the filing). Wouldn't be surprised if the amended polymer has been with the foundries for months.

Interesting that one of the inventors listed on the filing is a professor of Chemistry at U of Colorado.
