I think LP is saving ammunition until she sees the whites of their eyes - then it will be a full side barrage to the front. Imagine 25 pound barbells being fired from a canon at 60 feet away, ripping arms and legs off in a fraction of a second (unless you were unlucky enough to get hit in the stomach). A good personal account of a British/French naval battle will give you an idea of how badly the shorts will be obliterated, whether you call them the British, or the French.
