It sounded like she was excited because she had reason to be excited as someone who has been running an Anavex EXCELLENCE clinical trial. And strong signals that something good is happening in that trial would also tend to raise hopes that even a cure is possible with gene editing.
It takes a bit of an effort to discount these remarks to nothing more than generalized enthusiasm; researchers are like everyone else, they can be excited or discouraged, happy or sad. Every 2-73 investigator we hear about seems to be at the far end of excited and optimistic. Perhaps it is more than coincidence.
