I suspect that has to do with Amyloid being one of the few bio markers about AD that has been able to be measured prior to autopsy. Tau being the other one.
When all you can see is a single nail, you try different hammers.
Please remember that AD is inside the brain. That makes it considerably more difficult to measure, test, biopsy, and treat. Consider that over the last month or two there have been 3 or 4 new papers published, each claiming to have found the real cause of AD, and each one has a completely different explanation of the cause. And who knows, all of them may be correct. AD may turn out to be a symptom of multiple diseases that have different causes that result in very similar end results.
AD is not like a brain tumor that shows up on X-rays that can be surgically removed. It happens at the cellular or intra cellular level.
