I am always of same idea. When I was 19 or 20 I was in Montreal and at Shwartzs or Bens at 2 am and ordered fish and chips - The server asked me where I was from and I said east coast. He was a mountain of a man and likely been there 30 years. He advised me I would be having the smoked Meat as I was in Montreal.

ever since - Steak in Calgary, scallops when in Digby, Donairs when in Halifax, and of course, Dark Rum and Coke when in Cape Breton, and I am sure there are others.

I have not really been outside Canada and Florida much. Louisiana I had the full platter of fish octopus, frog legs, aligator and whatever else they had.

I remember years ago, I went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a work-related trade show. For lunch one day, I figured I'd get a 'Philly Cheese Steak' because, after all, where better to get a Philly Cheese Steak than in Philly?

See, you were confused, what you wanted was a Philadelphia Cheese Cake

As for the rest, the only advice I can give is when you are in a restaurant in a country you don't really know is to say "I'll have whatever he's having"

The locals know what is good
