It is sad, no doubt. But it is not the FDA, it is the law. Legislators are at odds about whether the FDA would become a captured regulator by big drug companies and we might have all kinds of unapproved drugs in the market. We are so manic about how we regulate from party to party, that there is no guarantee that if they passed a really liberal law under either party that it would not become a total lack of regulation under a rogue anti-regulation Presidency. And the fact is that both parties have made serious mistakes in the past in under regulating dangerous drugs and substances. Look at the opioid epidemic. Or cigarettes. It becomes far too politicized to manage from administration to administration.
But I agree, it would be nice. Our nation is too oppositional, partisan and corporation drive compared to many other nations that can manage these things a bit more reasonably. At least for now.
