Covid is worse than ever by a factor of two. What is most infuriating is some ER’s have starting testing patients here in vegas. I’m guilty too as I mostly do as I’m told. So we have maybe 10-20% increase across the board for testing…but they have to sign in with at least a reasonable emergency complaint…so it becomes shortness of breath….the reason not to do any ER testing except for admitted patients is perhaps not obvious…let alone that you can get tested for free at over 50 locations here in vegas. And no ER copay. But Medicaid patients get everything for free…….so why not goto the closest place…ie the ER or the free standing ER….grrrrrrr
We are inundated. Admitted patients in the waiting room for over 24 hours. Joe ankle sprain is sitting next to Melissa covid test in the WR. If she has it…now everyone around her does or could too…makes contact tracing somewhat pointless don’t ya think…meanwhile…yesterday I saw 35 pts…at least ten were covid positive cause I did the test despite what my superiors say. Mostly cause about a week ago they told me to…now they say not to..but it’s facility specific. Bottom line is all these unvaccinated people are now scared at the slightest scratchey throat and the coming to the ED and putting all the staff and true emergency patients at risk. 1 year ago the ED volume was 50% what it is today. We at all time highs. And the demeanor of the patients is 30%hostile or Medicaid entitled and 20% paranoid or psychotic. 50% actually need to be there. Sorry for the grim update. This is the gospel as far as I and those I talk to here have seen it. Lem
