#324621 RE: Gator328 #324618

I worked in a federal agency for decades, and the incentives and levers are not the same as the private sector. The FDA has been embarrassed, appropriately, over the approval scandal and money now from Biogen would only make it worse. Much worse.

The Inspector General is going to be all over any hint of that kind of corruption, as will Congress. I don't think that will be the issue as much as a lobbyist mindset being accepted by senior managers. Any "appearance of impropriety" will be avoided -- that's the controlling ethics and cultural standard, so no more off the books meetings or friendly get togethers. It will be a nightmare for Biogen's lobbyists there. Even legit decisions that might seem to favor Aduhelm again will be an uphill climb. The FDA has to defend/restore its reputation, or it loses its power to effectively regulate.

Not a private sector, more money wins situation. Government agencies are different.
