#73305 RE: Tasermania #73299

There is a few ways to approach that question. The easiest answer is there is a consensus among Broadcom, Marvell (Inphi), Cisco, and LWLG that co-packaged optics (CPO) will bring 30% power savings to the hyperscale datacenters. All four of these companies have individually stated the same 30% projection. This is a 30% power savings of the entire data center power budget, not just a 30% reduction in drive voltage for the fiber optics components.

These claims include more than just replacing pluggable 100G and 400G optics with CPO. It will likely bring a brand new network architecture and change the way all devices inside the data center fabric are connected. So we are talking about a paradigm shift. The companies mentioned above have plans to begin the rollout of CPO by 2023.
