I thought that they run correlated to the basket of underlying stock. Buying an ETF is like buying the basket of weighted underlying stock. In that sense your helping drive up the price of the underlying and therefore the ETF. The ETF itself is not independent of the underlying. If the underlying goes down the ETF price goes down etc.
AS a point of reference, it sorta acts like the QQQ which trades about $300 per share right now, they will just need to build up confidence and get more buyers....
