Epi pen, insulin, Shrekeli....not our people. Outsiders that came in looking for a buck. If you are referring to the great advances that Eli Lilly and Nova Nordisk brought to the world as far as recombinant and extended/other formulation insulin, I think you can still buy pig insulin from India. You are welcome to move there, their immigration policy is quite liberal as I understand.
As far as NIH funding research...that money has all but dried up and funds early research or useless clinical trials. The government kicks in a few hundred thousand to couple million bucks to academics, then pharma takes this and invests billions to bring it to fruition, or often fail along the way after investing billions. Does the government take that risk? Hell no. Be careful...You can trace most everything back far enough...even here.
When all other US businesses benefit from preliminary government research, no one complains about it. Does the government deserve a big chunk of Space Ex (silly comparison but you get my point, I can go on and on and on and on and on)? This is a capitalist society.
This board so frequently reminds me of one of my favorite songs by Sting.
“Confront your enemies, avoid them when you can...”
“It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile, be yourself no matter what they say.”
And my favorite is a line he usually changes live from “A night candle...” to “America burns brighter than the sun”
