One of the recurring human responses to crisis is to turn to leader's who are perceived as strong, powerful and forceful and who claim to have simple answers to complex problems. Usually those leaders turn out to be mankind's biggest nightmare.

Since the beginning of this century freedom and democracy is on the retreat globally. Covid, unfortunately, will serve as an accelerator of that process.

As a continental European, naive as I am and as crazy as it sounds, I'm once again looking at the US to hold up the flame of freedom and democracy in this world. It certainly ain't the EU the way things go over here.
