IYO are multiple partners in the future for Anavex's expanding pipeline?
Off the top of my head, three major endeavors are involved in a pharmaceutical's operations. Would Anavex be able to rapidly and sufficiently put in place all three of these, to go it alone? And, are there other operations I'm missing?
First, the company has to get its drugs approved for sale and therapeutic uses. Anavex is doing that right now with its several clinical trials.
Next, it would have to synthesize, manufacture, its drugs. Anavex has patents on how to efficiently do this with blarcamesine. Drug synthesis could easily be farmed out to an existing chemistry firm. I see no problems with this. Manufacture could be easily scaled up to meet increasing sales demands.
Lastly, someone has to go out and sell the drugs. That requires drug sales people to make the rounds to physicians, updating and educating about the drugs to be available. In the same vein, regional medical seminars must be presented, giving info to practitioners attending these often required educational events.
A friend at my church was an accomplished (say, well-embursed) drug company sales rep for one of the big pharmas. He used to tell me stories of his visits to doctors' offices, often at lunch (you can imagine who paid for those). The fellow was really good at selling new drugs to doctors. That takes special skills. Don't waste the physician's time. Show him the relevant supporting data, and when and how to prescribe. Most importantly, show how prescribing the drug will benefit both the patient and the practice.
So, if Anavex decides to go it alone (my preference for them), they will have to create a Sales Coordination operation that would assemble a field sales team. Could that be done? Very much. Sales reps are like professional sports players. They contract their skills to the team that pays the most money. Anavex will be able recruit a quite capable sales team.
I see no reason(s) Anavex Life Sciences Corp can't or won't develop into a major global pharmaceutical, by themselves.
