Options accelerated the situation dramatically, one reason among many that I don’t deal with them nor am I a fan in general.
As far as WSB is concerned, people choose to “invest” for a number of reasons, ludicrous or not. WSB moderators didn’t force anyone to invest, nor are they in control beyond basic rule enforcement.
There are always egos and predatory behavior where “dumb”money meets a captive audience. However, people on that board knew the risks; it’s part of their culture.
It wasn’t until GME that the insane risk/reward nature of their community came under scrutiny and somehow transformed them into a nefarious criminal organization.
