youre right. there was a time when industry needed a well nourished and energized populace, but the american industrial model is over. its china and india's turn to be the manufacturing dynamo. our workforce became to expensive to maintain except for the ceo's that leave with 500 million dollar golden parachutes...when i worked in corporate america, our ceo sold our bank to another one and got 55 million tax free. we thought that was outrageuos then but its only gotten worse... this is why the programs that maintained the workforce (affordable health insurance)and paid them after they retired with social security and medicare are being dismantled... the middle class is doomed.

Under capitalism, political power is not derived from the people, as would be the case in a democracy; nor does it not flow from the bottom up—it matriculates from the top down. It is really quite simple: The men and women who are in office were put there by people with immense wealth to represent the interests of the wealthy, to make money for them.
