Interesting...

I always heard that you should never change the ATF in Fords, but I don't know why.

I don't know what make his station wagon is. I'll ask.

If it's been 15 years, the trans fluid must stink to high heaven. I'd been having mine done every 30,000 miles. Now doing it every 15,000. My mechanic told me I needed it done by the smell. When I was under the car with him, I thought I was going to gag when he dropped the pan. It stank to high heaven.

FWIW... turned 180,800+ miles tonight. I'm going for 300,000. My mechanics don't laugh. They think we can do it.

BTW, what made you ask?

My friend is the father of four with a stay at home wife. He needs to preserve what he has in order to stretch his income. He and I share a love of bigass American cruisemobiles. He is fond of this station wagon. I just want to help him keep it going as long as possible.

Thanks for the start up information. I'll keep you posted.

You wrote ... (Company car, I always do most of my own work on mine)...

People who do not have company cars may not know how special they are.

The Company Car...

1. It accelerates at a phenomenal rate.

2. It has a much shorter braking distance than the private car.

3. It can take speed humps at twice the speed of private cars.

4. The battery , radiator water, oil and tires never have to be checked.

5. The floor is cunningly designed to double as an ashtray.

6. It does not need to be kept under shelter at night.

7. It can be driven up to 60 miles with the oil warning light flashing.

8. It needs cleaning less often than private cars.

9. The suspension is reinforced to allow for the weekend loads of bricks, concrete slabs and other building material.

10. Unusual and alarming engine noises are easily eliminated by turning up the radio.

11. It needs no security system and may be left anywhere, unlocked and with the keys in the ignition.

12. It is the only type of car able to leave the road in game reserves and chase after animals in the bush for a closer look.

13. It is especially sand and waterproof for barbeques and fishing expeditions on remote beaches.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. Many thanks to Barney on SI for #reply-19417852

P.P.S. Most likely a company car
