I always heard that you should never change the ATF in Fords, but I don't know why.

I don't know what make his station wagon is. I'll ask.

If it's been 15 years, the trans fluid must stink to high heaven. I'd been having mine done every 30,000 miles. Now doing it every 15,000. My mechanic told me I needed it done by the smell. When I was under the car with him, I thought I was going to gag when he dropped the pan. It stank to high heaven.

FWIW... turned 180,800+ miles tonight. I'm going for 300,000. My mechanics don't laugh. They think we can do it.

BTW, what made you ask?

My friend is the father of four with a stay at home wife. He needs to preserve what he has in order to stretch his income. He and I share a love of bigass American cruisemobiles. He is fond of this station wagon. I just want to help him keep it going as long as possible.
