This is a secular government by design. The divine right of kings, and resultant religious wars, are responsible for the establishment clause in the First, the VERY first, Amendment.

You have a right to claim religious authority to support your views on a board, and I have a right to cry foul because I don't believe god says what other people claim god says to them.

Theocratical governance and arguments, like nature, too often are red in tooth and claw.

The 1st amendment is quite clear regarding the freedom of religion or not.
