The problem is the outbreak is happening again all around the globe.
Not surprising. The US has been a ready made reservoir of Covid. Probably the source of the ROW 2nd wave.
Then sprinkle in only 3% of the US population or 9M has been infected. Generating 240K deaths. Who knows how many asymptomatic carriers.
Under the circumstances the EU isn't really screwing up. They readily exited their 1st wave. While the US sloughed thru the 1st into a 2nd wave. Last I heard the EU were prepared to shutdown a 2nd time. Will they be able to exit a 2nd wave, with the US 3rd wave as a reservoir for global infection? If the US can take the daily count of new cases from 100K to 20K, quite likely the EU, and ROW will exit their 2nd wave. If the US can't downshift the curve, then the ROW will also be sick. Unless the US is quarantined from the ROW. Which isn't likely.
Until the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines arrive, the best hope remains not only masks, but N95 masks for everyone. Where those continue to be in short supply along with cost. The hope part is also based on purging the Trumpy effect. A mask isn't about politics, manliness, or imagery, but rather about science and life. I'd also like to see emphasis on vinyl disposable gloves. Contact infection is possible, especially in the colder temps.
