One can understand Harris's function was to do no harm, and introduce herself to the public. With a lot of smiles so the Trumpy label that she was a spiteful mean spirited woman wouldn't stick. But... as you say there were so many freebees served up to her by Pence. Who has never enjoyed a reputation of being smarts. Again, IMO, she went too lite in the debate.
