I’ve expressed my personal beliefs here before, I think the small cap public biotech business evolved into a scheme to pay universities and research centers, while handing out handsome salaries and fees, mostly on unsuspecting global retail’s dime.

didnt think of that, that is a very interesting thesis.
The withdrawal of government form universities and overall educational institutions made those institutions certainly step up their effort to look for further resources. It should be no surprise that the number of listed starting nonrevenue biotechs has, in the last ten years, increased immensely, correlation the phenomena you describe.

For every breath of medical innovation starting at those institutions a biotech is formed lol.
