Can someone please explain the Marco Polo commercial where the llama appears in the back ground?

Well, obviously Marco Polo himself turns up, and doesn't understand why the kids are calling his name. But eventually he begins to understand how the (pointless, in my view) game works.

But I have absolutely NO idea what the alpaca (I think it's an alpaca rather than a llama) is meant to signify.
