There's a deli local to me that's been doing deliveries for years. For the breakfast and lunch busy times they have part time drivers, mostly retired people. For the quiet times, they use store employees they are already paying. Almost all of their delivery business is repeat customers. They now have 5 vehicles.
I've been going there for years and just for fun took my laptop in, showed one of the owners the Deuce Drone idea. She found it "interesting," but said she probably wouldn't be interested. The main reason being that they can put multiple orders to close-together customers into one delivery vehicle. For example, based on history they can anticipate multiple lunch orders going to the same block of stores. When I asked if she would have been interested in that idea before she had a delivery fleet she said "definitely."
It's my opinion that Deuce Drone is targeting a niche market. Offering brick and mortar stores something the stores would not be able to do on their own - offer immediate delivery to local customers. Integrating the drone delivery into the store app is appealing, and I can see the possibility of repeat customers, like the deli has
