You oversimplify the matter...

The area around Charleston, WV was then known as “Chemical Valley.” The area’s abundant oil, natural gas, and salt brine, as well as its proximity to the river and to established railways made it a natural for a chemical industry that was just coming into its own. At its peak, a small stretch of the Elk and Kanawha Rivers was home to plants operated by Union Carbide, Dow, DuPont, Westvaco, Monsanto, and Bayer. Antifreeze was invented in the valley. The town of Nitro earned its name from the nitrocellulose plant that was built to produce various explosives for WWI.

And we haven't always done that?

No we havent,we we once the.leaders in many things, chemicals being one.

And we haven't always done that? Again, Bayer AG is a German company.

Indeed we have, but I would posit that quality control and sanitation standards are a bit different in most of China and India vs. what goes on in Germany or most other parts of Europe.

Chinese factories have a history of cutting corners on all manner of products, not the least of which has killed many children and pets. Many Chinese will seek out imported baby formula and pet food because they don't trust the domestically manufactured stuff.
