Jeunke - I would be speculating also. I've not worked with 1250nm devices. If we keep in mind that - as wavelength decreases - the frequency increases as the two are inversely proportional.
Signal losses through a medium (air, fiber, coax, etc.) typically increase as frequencies go higher. Information density (bits/Hz) also increases with higher frequency, which is a primary motivator to use lower wavelengths (higher freqs).
