“30 times more lethal” is a gross misrepresentation ... even if you took 3.4% as true. It is clearly not. The denominator (total cases) is way too low. Below is a correct understanding of the situation.
Experts differ on what the denominator should be but from some that I have heard said it should be 1% or less. So, you can divide by at least 3 on all the percentages below. Thus, for everyone under 40, it’s less lethal, 40-59 about the same as the flu and 60+ is where covid-19 is more lethal with increasing degree as the age increases.
Per the Surgeon General, the flu is more lethal than the covid-19 virus for children and young adults. That should be EOD for them.
The more lethal part is clearly 70+ years of age with already compromised health issues.
This should calm fears for the younger:
AGE DEATH RATE all cases 80+ years old 14.8% 70-79 years old 8.0% 60-69 years old 3.6% 50-59 years old 1.3% 40-49 years old 0.4% 30-39 years old 0.2% 20-29 years old 0.2% 10-19 years old 0.2% 0-9 years old no fatalities
