Standard procedure in this game. Vendor X pays for an incentive to convince a long time vendor Y customer to jump ship to vendor X's platform. The traditional form is an above market value trade-in allowance on the customer's vendor Y machines.
BTW, what goes around comes around. Sun was very busy doing the same thing trying to convince unhappy Alpha users to jump to SPARC when HP acquired Compaq. They weren't very successful since most Alpha users are smart enough to avoid switching from one dying house RISC to another.
I think "bribing" is a little strong of a word. They look like incentives to me. I'd hate to think I was being bribed every time I buy the coffee on sale at the supermarket.
