Was there ever a summer? If we go by the history of post WWII Japan-US relations, the best we can hope for is cordiality although IMO Japanese culture is quite a bit more xenophobic than other Asian cultures. China's top down central planning model mimics that of Japan post WWII but with some military component that bugs the neocons here a lot no doubt. I say let them spend the $$$$ to protect oil exporters instead of us.
