Dr. Fabio M. Iwamoto is also involved with the DCVax-L Phase 3 trial and is one of the co-authors of the May 2018 paper, along with Dr. LL.

Recently, a team of scientists headed by Christian Braun, postdoctoral student at the time of the research, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA, has identified the mechanism by which a specific protein called PRMT5 drives the growth of glioblastoma tumors. Omar Abdel-Wahab, Assistant Member in the Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program (HOPP) in the Department of Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, says commenting on the team’s findings, “PRMT5 has a lot of roles, and until now, it has not been clear what is the pathway that is really important for its contributions to cancer.”
What is more, by blocking the chain of events that allows PRMT5 to cause cancer with a class of existing drugs, the researchers were able to arrest glioblastoma tumor growth in mice. “What they have found,” Dr. Abdel-Wahab adds, “is that one of the key contributions is in RNA splicing mechanism, and, furthermore, when RNA splicing is disrupted, that key pathway to causing cancer is disabled..'
