"Pill popping culture"

I cannot agree with you more.

When a patients tells me that he/she "can't sleep" and wants Ativan (or clonazepam, or Xanax, or Ambien, etc) and then I find out, they are drinking coffee at all hours, they are on their cell phone right before sleep, they are taking a stimulant during the day ("to help with their (bullship) ADHD") and that the "other doctor" prescribed the benzodiazepine for them - I usually tell them to make lifestyle changes and they should get better.

I then go on a spiel about how the suprachiasmatic nucleus needs to reset itself everyday to make up for the 23 hour circadian clock and that early morning sun from 7am-9am resets the internal clock so that they will have better means to sleep naturally.

Most of the time, the many people balk because they are so used to a "doctor" just prescribing a medication to help with what should be a natural process.

Sleep disorders are the sole manifestation of the industrial revolution - with the advent of artificial light.

I grate against the crowd of physicians who LOVE to give pills. IF you are having a side effect from a medication, here is another medication to counteract the side effects. I mean, WTF!!!

PEople need to get down to the basics and stop believing that there is a pill for everything and start understanding that the body is very resilient at "healing" whatever is ailing it.

Yes, this "pill popping" culture is our nation's and our world's downfall.

The power of hard work and critical thinking wanes as the destructive force of spoonfed bullshit gains.
