Good point. To many times when you look at what you can get for the same amount of money you are much better off doing that.

Plus......... these huge contracts do nothing but encourage more huge contracts that then raises ticket prices which ensure the rich go to the games while the blue collar families either can only go to one or two or say the heck with the over priced ball players and watch it at home.

Good point 54, $136 million could buy a starting rotation from the available pool of free agent pitchers, starting with Zito. The same goes for the Red Sox committing $51 miliion just to negotiate with that Japanese pitcher.

guys

thanks, as you know - i agree. to be perfectly honest, i fully expected it - considering who our new team president and part owner is.....

"This past Wednesday at 4:45pm, (May 3, 2006) Commissioner Selig announced the winning bid for the Washington Nationals. Theodore Lerner, a Washington, DC area real estate magnate, became the principle owner, but Kasten was the straw that stirred the Nationals deal — bringing his background with the Braves and the development of Turner Field into the mix."

"Since Mr. Kasten became President in 1987, the Braves have won more games than any team in Major League Baseball and are one of the league’s model franchises."

needless to say, the man knows how to build a franchise. i'm not thrilled with bowden as our GM or with lamar as bowden's assitant, but if and as long as kasten has the last word - i believe the washington nationals will be okay. not next season, but in the not to distant future.....
