I have a problem with any group that lies about their privacy and security.
I haven't had a FB account for years because of that. I really dislike Zuckerberg and he needs replacing, at the least. The technology exists for them to control the bots and trolls. They say they'll do one thing but then they never quite do it. If it makes them money they want to keep whatever it is no matter how egregious.
All of them could use a better BOD with tech-savvy independents in the majority.
Google and Apple are on huge over-reach as far as collecting data they don't need and have no business with. FWIW I rarely use Google and am never signed in to my account. I wouldn't even have one excerpt for having an Android phone.
Amazon is a slightly different thing in that they need some info to ship your purchases. However- beyond that they want more and more for ad-tracking that I consider intrusive.
Most of the people who would be crafting laws regulating then are tech-dummies and that IS a problem because they headline here is right- they have no damn idea how it works.
Elizabeth Warren may have the best idea- break them up. It's easier to write legislation that would work if the pieces are smaller.
As for MSFT- I don't know how they got a pass, but they are doing a little better transparency-wise and they have a lot of whistle blowers these days. Whenever the profit-driven mgmt tries out something they shouldn't- someone makes sure to tell the BOD and the newspaper. They're out here where I live. Main campus is only 7-8 miles away and the general population is quite Blue. They have made it clear what is expected and MSFT is slowly improving their game. They are also more regulated now than the others since the Monopoly charge bu the DOJ. And the EU has also had tighter oversight for some time. Maybe it's because they've been around longer and the gov't started on them earlier as they should have with the others.
