At some point trials will not be about time, they will be about information and knowledge gained. BTW, that can happen in microseconds. The almost mid evil practice of waiting for something good to happen as proof of the science is about to get buried at last.
When we finally understand the science we will only need trials to verify our proof of efficacy has been properly tuned. At some point we will look back on the past 30+ CNS years and wonder what took us so long. Precision medicine is about data, facts and verification, followed by validation. Done.
