You know its not a team, right? "The shorts" are investors, like you and me. We all have interest in making money from this company. If you see that the stock is dropping daily, or look at a death spiral chart and someone explained call options and ways to make money when a company is doing poorly, why wouldn't you do the same? If you can only be excited when a stock goes up, you are leaving a lot of money on the table.
