The first argument against elimination would be that so many depend on them. Many of which do not pay taxes, by the way.

You do not receive SS unless you paid in, ditto for Medicare. They were created so that older people would be LESS dependent and have a better chance of living longer and with better health.

The 'system' is badly out of whack and out of balance, or haven't you noticed the infrastructure problems and the poorest healthcare outcomes for the buck compared with most of the industrialized world?
